In honor of Valentine’s Day, I’m sharing some of my favorite images from a fun styled shoot I attended last month at The White Dove Barn. As a creative, sometimes I need to step out of my normal routine and be, well, creative. As usual, I was feeling exhausted after a busy fall season of weddings, family sessions, school and general holiday chaos. So when I saw the inspiration board for this particular shoot, my heart almost leapt out of my chest at the sight of so much–yep, you guessed it–PINK! Surely I can’t be the only one that craves bright colors after all the leaves disappear and winter takes its toll? I could feel my creative nerves buzzing with excitement!
Keeping with the spirit of being creative here, I decided to shoot with a film stock that I had never used before. Portra 800 has incredible skin tones and the vivid colors I love, and is a great choice for overcast light. This particular film stock ended up being the perfect choice for this shoot, because it was extremely cloudy outside and I got to experiment with bumping the exposure quite a bit!
So, whether you came for the POP of pink, the romantic white barn, or the lure of basking in all things Valentine’s Day, I hope you will enjoy these images! And when you’re done, be sure to check out each of the fabulous vendors credited below.
You know what’s funny? I never really liked the color pink when I was younger. Now I can’t get enough!
I can’t get over how vibrant all of these colors are! Not to mention Jazmine is basically a goddess, NBD.
The next image needs its own introduction. I had been wanting to try a double exposure on film for a while and, well this seemed like the perfect time to experiment. I wasn’t even sure if I did it right! And then, when I got my scans back, I think I literally stared at my computer screen for a solid 15 minutes in disbelief that it worked. And not only did it work, but THIS photo is straight MAGIC. I cried.
More hot pink and green bridal bouquets in the future, please?
These two. Not only are they gorgeous. But they are champions of freezing weather and wind! You’d never know it by looking at them!
The inside of The White Dove is JUST as stunning as the outside (which you’ll see more of later)! I absolutely adore the white on white and high windows. It is such a versatile and elegant space.
All of the indoor photos I shot are digital. Even with all of the natural light and reflectors, it was a bit too dark for my film to expose properly. Knowing when to switch between mediums is an important part of the hybrid process!
These colors make me want it to be spring SO BAD. But also… how much would you love to have a tablescape like this for your Valentine’s (or Galentine’s) Day dinner party? I’ve got my inspiration for next year!
The evening wouldn’t be complete without the grand finale – cake and LOTS of giggles!
